OpenGeo and terrestris Promote Open Source at GI_Forum/AGIT2011
Sessions Highlight Benefits of Open Source to English and German-Speaking Audiences
Salzburg, Austria, July 7 - OpenGeo and its partner terrestris are conducting a range of seminars and workshops in English and German at the 5th Geoinformatics Forum/AGIT2011 conference in Salzburg, Austria. The University of Salzburg Centre for Geoinformatics and the Institute for GIScience at the Austrian Academy of Sciences offer this annual forum to the worldwide geoinformatics community, bringing together English-speaking researchers and practitioners across disciplines and industries. Simultaneously, the GI_Forum connects participants into a well-established co-located regional symposium — Applied Geoinformatics (AGIT) — sharing the state-of-the art AGIT-EXPO exhibit.
Sessions on open source software are very popular at this year’s event, with offerings including

terrestris is a geoinformatics business from Bonn, Germany and originally a spin-off from the University of Bonn. terrestris has been active in the conceptualisation, implementation and maintenance of spatial data infrastructures using open source software like PostGIS, OpenLayers and GeoServer. One focus is on geodata acquisition in real-time using wireless sensor networks for environmental monitoring and displaying resulting data in a WebGIS environment.
