Core Development

Core development adds new features to the open source projects in which we participate. The roadmap items to the right are projects that we consider important to the continued growth and maturity of these projects.

What counts as “core development”?

Any item in the development road-maps we post on the core development pages of our projects: PostGIS, GeoServer, GeoWebCache, OpenLayers, GeoExt.

Will this feature be in the next release?

The only way to ensure a feature is added on a particular schedule or before a particular release is to fund development of that feature. We will combine your support with that of others until there is enough backing to complete the feature.

The feature I want is not in your list, what do I do?

Contact us and tell us what your development item is. If we think it is something that is of wide interest to the open source community, we will treat it as a core development item.

What if I can't afford to fund the entire development effort?

Contact us and let us know what feature you are interested and how much funding you can make available. We will look for an additional funder to make up balance of the development budget.

Your feature description is close, but not exactly what I am looking for… What should I do?

Contact us and tell us what your precise needs are. We only draw up detailed core development plans, with precise deliverables and time-lines, when there is a funder available for the work.

What is the core development discount?

OpenGeo offers reduced rates—either as 25% off of our standard rack rate or a fixed price estimate—on items from our core development roadmaps.
